The Competition

GSR CrossFit has created the Battle for the Badge competition to honor the US military while challenging all of the teams to see who works hard enough, is dedicated enough and is tough enough to win. The Battle for the Badge competition supports Returning Warrior, a project dedicated to bringing awareness to the issues faced by our veterans coming home from a warzone.

The 2018 Battle for the Badge will be held at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena Saturday August 25, 2018 and feature athletes from New York and Pennsylvania. The event includes a vendor village full of local businesses, which will be available throughout the event for athletes and spectators.

The Battle for the Badge features two-member, same gender team format with RX, Scaled, and Masters divisions. Competition will start at 8am and run through 4pm featuring a minimum of 4 WODs.  All divisions will be competing for prizes from our sponsors valued at a total of $2,600!

About Returning Warrior Project
The Returning Warrior is a project of the Broome County STOP-DWI Program and is in support of the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group (STVSG) held to heighten awareness about service member’s transition from the dangers of warzone driving to the new risks they face on our public highways here at home. Motor vehicles crashes have quickly become the leading cause of death among veterans in the early years after returning from deployment according to the Veterans Administration. The Returning Warrior Study released in 2012 by USAA indicates a 13 percent increase in at-fault accidents for troops within the first six months of returning from deployments. This number increases as the number of deployments increase and the age of the veteran decreases.

About GSR CrossFit
GSR Crossfit is all about "Maximizing You." This isn’t just about how much weight you can lift or how fast you run —it’s about creating a healthier, fuller life and learning to push yourself to discover—to realize how much unlimited potential is stored up inside of you.  Every member here is special. Each person has a story and a life that we can only hope to be some part of each day. We love to hear just a bit of what brought them to where they are today. Everyone in our CrossFit community is encouraging, with plenty of great conversation to go along with each WOD. Our members really enjoy our fantastic communal setting, because this is a place where functional fitness is fun and non-intimidating.
